The earthquakes of 25 April and 12 May 2015 have been a terrible calamity for Nepal as they affected almost half of its districts, including hard-to-reach isolated mountainous areas. Due to it, 8790 people lost their lives and more than 22300 people were injured. More than a half million private houses were fully destroyed and 2.5 lakh houses were partially damaged. In a nutshell, the destruction was widespread covering residential and government buildings, heritage sites, schools and health posts, rural roads, bridges, water supply systems, agricultural land, trekking routes, hydropower plants and sports facilities.
National Youth Alliance for Reconstruction (NYAR), a loose network of 14 youth organizations including Youth Advocacy Nepal (YAN), has been contributing in recovery and reconstruction since the earthquake. In the initial period, NYAR focused its activities in relief distribution and currently, it has focused its activities in recovery and reconstruction process. The motto of the network is to promote community led recovery and reconstruction and strengthens the youth leadership at multiple levels. If you are also interested to have partnership with us in contributing the reconstruction process, we would like to request you to call or email us.
